Frequently Questions (FAQ's)

Where necessary or appropriate, we will update the questions.

1 - From what age can I take part in L'Étape Portugal by Tour de France?
In the 140k and 100k distances, from 18 years old on, until December 31st 2024.
In the 50k distance, from 15 years old on, until December 31st 2024.

2 - I am federated in another UCI federation, from a country other than Portugal, can I register as a federated athlete?
Yes, based on the licence of the Federation where you are federated. However, please note that if you need to activate insurance, you are only covered by your federation's insurance (check coverage) and never by the one announced by the organization, which has a registration cost of +3€.

3 - Can I change distance and course on the day of the event? If yes, where can I do it?
In line with the practice of all L'Étape by Tour de France events, establishing different prices according to distance and consequently specific bibs for each distance, makes it impossible for the participant to decide to change the distance along the route, however, they can change to a shorter distance, never longer.
However, registered participants may change the distance at which they initially registered, as long as they do so up until the closing date for entries. After that date, changes to the route will not be validated.
The validation of the change to a higher distance will depend on the payment of the remaining amount on the date of the change. Athletes that change their participation to a shorter distance will not be refunded any amount.
The change in distance will be made by the runner in his personal area on the Stop and Go platform (official L'Étape Portugal by Tour de France registration platform), until the closing date for entries - 25th September 2024.
Riders who participate in a superior distance than the one they are registered for will be disqualified.

4 - I've already registered in the distance I want, but now I want to buy the Jersey and a lunch for a companion, is that still possible?
If at the time of registration you didn't add any extra (Jersey and lunch for companions) you can do it afterwards, taking into account the following deadlines:
- for the case of the Jersey, orders validated until the 25th of August will have a cost of 45€ and will be delivered at the secretariat; Orders validated after the 25th of August will have a cost of 55,00€ and the order will be sent to the address indicated by the athlete, within 5 weeks after the event. The cost of the jersey includes shipping costs (for national territory);
- for lunch, orders validated by 25 September will be priced at €17.00 and the price at the event secretariat - on 27, 28 and 29 September - will be €20.00.

5 - The deadline for registrations has passed (25 September 2024) but I still want to register.
Registrations are open until 24:00 on 25 September 2024. After the closing date, the organization may provide some more registrations, in limited number, which will have an additional cost of 30 €. Contact the organization via email: letapeportugal@podi1.com .
Athletes registered after the closing date will not have their front personalized (name and nationality).
No payments will be accepted after the deadline. The payments made after the established deadline will be returned within 90 days, by bank transfer, after receiving the Credit Note issued by the organizing company duly signed by the athlete, less the value of 5 € referring to administrative expenses.

6 - I want to change the tax payer on the invoice, can I ask you to change it after the invoice is issued?
The invoices regarding the registration in the race will be issued according to the information collected in the registration form. After the invoices are issued, no changes will be made, including in the tax identification number indicated in the form.

7 - I signed up but I won't be able to participate, can I ask for a refund?
In case of withdrawal, if communicated to the organization by email to letapeportugal@podi1.com until 24 hours of the 29th of August 2024 will be returned 50% of the amount paid for registration. If the withdrawal is communicated after 24 hours of the 29th of August 2024, no refund will be made.

8 - I signed up but I won't be able to participate, can I transfer my already paid registration to a friend?
A regularized registration of a withdrawn athlete can be transferred to another substitute athlete, as long as this substitution is communicated to the organization by email (letapeportugal@podi1.com ) until the 15th of September 2024. To the athlete that gives up will be sent a voucher corresponding to the value of his registration, to which is subtracted the amount of 5.00 € referring to administrative expenses, and the new athlete must make a new registration, using that same discount voucher and paying only the remaining value. The substitute athlete will be given a new dorsal.

9 - I registered but I will not be able to participate, can I transfer my registration to the 2025 edition?
Yes, as long as it is communicated to the Organisation by email by 25 September 2024, and for the 2025 edition we will issue a Voucher in advance, for the amount paid, which will have to be included in the registration platform for the 2025 edition.

10 - Can I ask a friend to pick up my dorsal at the registration desk?
Yes, as long as your friend brings the originals or copies with perfectly legible data of the documents (ID or Citizen Card and federation licence) of the absent athlete, as well as a document authorizing the pick up duly signed by the same athlete.
The event centre will be open on the 27th, 28th and 29th of September, according to the timetable announced on the website.

11 - Can I take my headset to listen to music or communicate by mobile phone?
For safety reasons, it is forbidden the use of headphones as an accessory device to listen to music or to use a mobile phone by the participants during the race.
However, during the race, the participant is required to carry with him a mobile phone with the number provided in the registration form (or another one that will be communicated in due time to the organisation), an identification document and cash money in case he wants to benefit from the availability of parts in the mechanical assistance during the race. If weather conditions are expected to be adverse, the organisation may oblige participants to use or carry certain equipment, such as thermal blankets or wind or waterproof clothing.

12 - How much time do I have to run and finish the course?
The athletes must arrive at the finish line before 15:45.
However, along the course there will be controls and time limits (closing of the controls) that will be communicated to the participants before the start of the race. As a base of calculation for the time limit in these points, will be the average that the athletes have to accomplish to arrive to the Finish Line before the closing time (15:45 h), weighted also by other factors like the profile of the course of the several sectors of the course.
The athletes who arrive at these time control points after the stipulated time limit for each control, will be forced to abandon the race, being picked up by the organization's "broom" vehicle to the finish line area.
