WELCOME TO VIANA DO CASTELO

Discover the city, the region and its history

Capital of the District and of the Alto Minho region, Viana do Castelo benefits from a privileged location, nestled between the mountain, the River Lima and the Atlantic Ocean.

It is therefore a starting point for multiple experiences of discovering a diversified territory. The magnificent beaches with clear waters, which make Viana do Castelo a paradise for practicing sea and wind sports, combine with the spectacular Lima River and the mountain trails that take us further inland to discover landscapes and scenarios where nature remains well preserved, defying all our senses.

The spectacular network of cycle pathways that start from Viana do Castelo and reach the city, is a privileged way to discover the whole territory, with dozens of kilometers accessible to everyone, designed along the banks of the Lima River and the coastline, next to the sea.

But Viana do Castelo also has many reasons not to leave the city. Its richness in historical and cultural terms is reflected in its artistic and urban heritage, with an immense offer of visit and experience programs.

HISTORY AND CULTURE
In the city, dominated from above by the iconic Sanctuary of Santa Luzia, buildings with strong historical traits are combined in the best way, with some of the most fascinating exercises in modern architecture. The river and the sea give a unique framework to this set and create spectacular environments for those who enjoy this city.

Culture and gastronomy are other strong marks of the city and the region, where some of the most famous pilgrimages in the country take place and where you can live the oldest traditions and taste some of the most famous delicacies in Portugal.

ACCESSES
Viana do Castelo benefits from a privileged situation, being about 40 minutes from Porto International Airport and about an hour from Vigo Airport.

The proximity to the border with Spain and the highway connection bring Viana do Castelo closer not only to all other regions of Portugal, but also to Galicia and other parts of Spain.
